a new website has appeared

I'm happy to share that I've been working on a new version of my personal website that has an archive of my projects, blog of my process, as well as other random things. It's been a few years since I last updated it, and honestly, this is really more of a major overhaul than a regular update. As I've been applying to various grants and residencies, I felt like I needed a better archive of my work and process, so I've tried to design a place that fits those needs.

While I know Instagram and social media has up until this point been acting as my archive (and it's been an… interesting experience documenting my journey since 2023), as time goes on I feel more and more discouraged from posting on social media for a variety of reasons. Some of the primary ones being that I do not like being on Instagram or Tiktok, scrolling or otherwise, while at the same time I have to acknowledge being online is somewhat of a necessity for creatives to share their work; being at the whim of algorithms and tech companies that don’t care; and feeling like I’m not free to post whatever I want, work, process, life, etc.

All of these things I’m hoping will be at least somewhat remedied by this site, which I’ve set up to make it easy for me to write and to share. And for you readers, I’ve even replicated some familiar systems for your ease of browsing, à la my blog archive feed ;-).

This website is still in progress, and I’m always looking for ways to improve it. If you have suggestions or just want to send a comment I’m always happy to hear it at hello@studiotomby.com. Thanks for reading and see you again next time!
