I'm not really sure what I was expecting when this trip to Mexico City was planned, but it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. It was my first time visiting, and many things about the city surprised me. It was quite wet, and rainy a few times despite being quite far inland, and the altitude of the city is far,… read more →

Ever since middle school I’ve been very interested in these embroidered balls called temari (手毬, literally hand-ball). Historically, they were made by rolling and wrapping fabric scraps tightly enough to make a ball for children's games, but over time they became more intricate and decorative. The idea made its way from China to Japan during the great exchange of… read more →

The other day I made a patchwork pouch for my e-reader using various scrap fabrics that I've received from my time at dosa. As I’ve been moving and settling in, I haven’t had as much time to be in my ceramics studio. Moving, however, made me realize just how many scraps I have stored, so I've been feeling motivated to… read more →

Ever since I started making nerikomi I have mostly kept the pieces unglazed because a) I never felt like I had the right glaze for them, and b) I feel like the pattern comes through nicer on unglazed pieces. This comes at the cost of the pieces not feeling quite as nice in the hand, unless I do some major… read more →

Time has been flying by lately! Last week, I celebrated my 29th birthday. I can't say that I feel that different; it feels pretty much like 28. I have no grand revelation—but I do feel that I'm always moving towards being more intentional about how I like to spend my time, and more conscious about what I choose to include… read more →

Sonoko and I first met at the end of 2024, when we held a pop-up and book launch for her at dosa along with my mentor and boss Christina. Not long after, she generously offered to help with a special dumpling party to celebrate 40 years of dosa. Somewhere in the middle of all our chopping, folding, and cooking, we… read more →

This is a belated post about my trip to Japan in the fall of 2025. For a long time, a ceramist friend of mine had been telling me amazing stories about her time in Mashiko, so when I finally booked my trip to Japan I knew it was a must visit for me. Mashiko is a well-known pottery town located… read more →

It's 2026. And unbelievably, we're already almost halfway through March. I've been so busy with work that I've barely even had a chance to think about my goals for the year. But as I've been sitting here the past few days, hyper-focused on writing this website, I've been able to come up with a couple. - study Japanese a little… read more →

I'm happy to share that I've been working on a new version of my personal website that has an archive of my projects, blog of my process, as well as other random things. It's been a few years since I last updated it, and honestly, this is really more of a major overhaul than a regular update. As I've been… read more →
